Zoque Fontalvo, Julián David; Rozo García, Pablo Emilio; Rozo García, Pablo Emilio [0000-0002-2587-8130]
In various industries such as pharmaceutical, veterinary, physico-chemical or microbiological analysis laboratories, and others, there are different processes, especially in the areas of quality control, microbiology, validations, and development. These processes require machines operating under special conditions related to the physico-chemical tests necessary to reach the production stage. One of the most complex pieces of equipment, due to the number of variables to be controlled, are climate chambers or stability equipment. In these types of equipment, it is necessary to control temperature, relative humidity, vapor pressure (in some cases), water level, and homogenization within a specific volumetric space. This thesis aims to develop a maintenance management model focused on aging or stability climate chambers, considering that these devices must operate continuously throughout their entire lifecycle.

This project aims to design and simulate an autonomous fuel supply system for a Tier 4 datacenter located in the Sabana of Bogotá. The system is designed to supply fuel from three storage tanks (two 2,000-gallon and one 5,000-gallon) to three power plants, each with a capacity of 250 gallons. It also includes fuel transfer functionality between tanks, facilitating maintenance without supply disruptions. The system is managed through a SCADA system implemented in TIA Portal, which allows remote monitoring and control. The main components include ultrasonic and capacitive level sensors for monitoring fuel, solenoid valves to direct the flow, a motor pump for fuel transfer, and an HMI interface for operator interaction. The system’s logic control is implemented in a Siemens S7-1200 PLC, chosen for its compatibility with TIA Portal and its ability to handle the necessary inputs and outputs of the system. The design considers key technical aspects such as optimization of pipe diameters, pressure losses, response times and alarm management. Various operational scenarios are also simulated to ensure fuel flow efficiency and continuity of supply under critical conditions. This system reduces reliance on manual processes, improves security and increases the energy and operational efficiency of the data center.

With the growing demand for aromatic plants from markets mainly in the United States and Canada, which is reflected in record figures in 2022 with 49.5 million dollars and a 16% growth in sales compared to the previous year (Forbes Colombia, 2023), the entry of new competitors and in addition to macroeconomic variables such as the exchange rate (Revaluation of the Colombian peso against the US dollar) it becomes important for Agrifresh S.A. to reduce operational costs, in order to be profitable and sustainable over time and in turn gain market share. For this reason, the present work is aimed at the introduction of new technologies in the selection and packaging processes of the company Agrifresh S.A., starting by making a diagnosis of the current method that includes the process flow diagrams, the measurement of times and movements of the activities, the current plant distribution, determining the restrictions and evaluating the capacity of the plant, observing machines, equipment and tools used in the process. This is done with the purpose of identifying improvement opportunities, activities or processes that can be automated. This leads to an automation proposal that improves process times, cycle times, and inventory levels of both raw materials and products in process, which is validated through simulation.

(Universidad Distrital Francisco José de Caldas) Gómez Díaz, Jhon Alexander; Soriano Méndez, José Jairo; Soriano Méndez, José Jairo [0000-0001-6442-5890]
Predictive control systems are essential to guarantee efficiency and safety in the transport of hydrocarbons, especially in complex environments such as Colombia, where factors such as orography, abrupt starts and stops, mixture of interfaces and variations in fluid density generate significant disturbances. The design and simulation of a predictive control system aimed at mitigating these hydraulic and process disturbances in pumping plants is proposed. For its development, historical operating data was analyzed, and machine learning models were implemented to identify the critical variables to be controlled. System simulation and predictive control integration were carried out using specialized software such as ASPEN Hysys and Rockwell Automation's RsLogix 5000. The main goal is to improve operational efficiency and minimize unscheduled downtime by real-time monitoring of suction and discharge pressures at each plant. This was achieved by dynamically adjusting the pump speed in the upstream plant based on the disturbance detection algorithm, ensuring that the system operates within safe limits. In addition, a proposal was presented for the efficient exchange of operational data when using the existing communication infrastructure. This system contributes to optimizing the management of hydrocarbon transport that increases the reliability and safety of the process.

Diseño de un sistema de automatización para el horno de curado de pintura electrostática de la Compañía PROIND S.A.S
Vargas Rico, Steven Nicolás; González Bautista, Sergio Ramiro
Currently, in the facilities of the company PROIND S.A.S. (a company dedicated to offer solutions in architecture and structural design projects, furniture for exhibition, storage or interior design, etc.) is installed an electrostatic painting booth and a curing oven for the final treatment that is performed for this type of process. This equipment is indispensable both for the final finishing of the structures used in the company's different projects and for the painting service provided to third parties when requested by them. The current procedure is as follows: as a first step the powder paint is applied inside a cabin that together with a cyclone for the reception of particulate material (in this case the powder residue of the paint) controls the segregation of the particulate material into the atmosphere that was generated by the application of the paint, after this, the structure or painted pieces as described in the first step are placed either on a fixed support or on hanging supports to proceed to introduce them into the oven for curing through a heating process with gas burners, but it is here where it will enter to optimize the entire painting process since the industrial control applied to the equipment is practically null, its operation is empirical and is limited to an on and off by simply flipping an ON/OFF switch. As main objective within the first stage of automation of the general process, it is intended to design an automation system for the curing oven where the operating conditions of the same are improved, implementing a programmable logic controller (PLC) and a human-machine interface (HMI), where through the latter can visualize and control the variables of the process included in the first stage of the project.

Automatización de invernaderos aplicando la técnica hardware in the loop (HIL)
Álvarez Flórez, José Ricardo; Avilés Sánchez, Oscar Fernando
In this work, an overview of how emerging technologies can be linked with the purpose of recreating the behavior of a greenhouse is obtained and from this, establish the control model that best fits the required behavior. The problem that was identified is a situation that has been affecting the peasants of the Cundi-Boyacense highlands year after year: in the early morning hours the temperature drops and this means that the crops are lost. Using the "Hardware in the loop" (HIL) technique, the control algorithm is validated, which is executed in a simulated programmable logic controller (PLC), thus helping to test the behavior without physical prototypes. The advance of the new technologies that has been implemented both in the academic and professional environment are of great help since they allow us to idealize a required context and in this way validate the program routine to be established in the programmable logic controller (PLC); which must interact with the mathematical model that describes the system and in this way make possible a validation of its implementation in the operator panel or human machine interface (HMI). The linking of these new technologies is in tune with this need, since it is very common that when faced with the characterization of a context such as that of a greenhouse; there are difficulties in making a direct validation in the field. This is a problem that exists both academically and professionally. Through the implementation of different software and different Industrial communication protocols, the tools that the university currently has were linked: such as the programmable logic controller, the operator panels: allowing to establish the communication and idealization of the greenhouse as if it were in the field and thus validate the response that it describes.
