Resumen
The furnaces are used in different industrial processes in the combustion stage, not only to generate heat (boiler) but also to produce heat and increase the temperature (combustion). During this stage, many hazards can be produced or generated affecting the general operation of the system or the operating staff. Within natural furnace operation, is possible to find unsafe conditions that could cause explosions, property implosions, injury, and death. This project describes the stages to be considered for the design of a BMS and its subsequent simulation through LABVIEW. It includes the characteristics of the required instrumentation, the communications to be implemented up to the control center, control logic, among others. All this is based on the requirements established in international standards and regulations such as, the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), in which the conditions, that must be gathered and developed by this type of safety systems, are described. Additionally, this project introduces the safe arrangement of instrumentation along feed lines and in the main furnace in P&ID designs to achieve functional safety requirements and attain the original approach for Burner Management Systems.
