Resumen
Early childhood is a crucial stage for language development, where the foundations of communication, thinking, and socialization are established. This thesis focuses on the acquisition and strengthening of the LEO code (reading, writing, and orality) in non-school settings, particularly in public libraries. These spaces—open, symbolically rich, and inclusive—enable meaningful early engagement with language through play, storytelling, reading aloud, singing, and other shared cultural practices. From a sociocultural perspective, the public library is seen as an alternative pedagogical environment that fosters interaction and collective meaning-making. This work presents a critical reflection based on the “Leo con mi bebé” program from Bogotá’s Public Library Network – BibloRed, where mediation strategies such as music, body expression, and sensory exploration were implemented to support early childhood appropriation of the LEO code. These experiences led to the creation of the book Cuando sale el sol, an outcome of the story method and the creation-research approach applied in non-formal contexts.
