Resumen
Under certain conditions of traffic and geometry, roundabouts represent a solution considerably superior to conventional intersections, however, the manual of geometric design of roads of INVIAS (2008) is shown to be precarious when addressing the criteria of operation, safety and design of this type of elements. The objective of this paper is to perform a comparative analysis between these criteria taking as a reference the guide of the Transportation Research Board of the United States of America and in this way to establish a general balance (With some criticisms, contributions and recommendations) of the colombian regulations. Future works can address specific problems related to the design of roundabouts taking as a reference the flaws here unidentified.
