Resumen
Student retention is a key factor in higher education, as it influences the efficiency of institutions and the academic success of students. In this work, a study was conducted on the relationship between the retention of undergraduate students of the Faculty of Engineering of the Francisco José de Caldas District University and the services and programs offered by Institutional Welfare during the period 2013-2022. To do so, a quantitative methodology based on the analysis of institutional data was used. The main factors that influence retention were identified and a correspondence was established between these and the services offered by the university. In addition, a documentary study was conducted in which enrollment and graduation records were collected and analyzed, as well as information on Institutional Welfare services, all this information provided by the academic vice-rector's office and the institutional welfare department. Subsequently, a correlational analysis was carried out using two statistical approaches: the Chi-square test and binary logistic regression. The analysis with the Chi-square test allowed to identify significant associations between student retention and different Institutional Welfare services. However, to delve deeper into the relationship between these variables, a binary logistic regression model was applied, which allowed us to determine the individual impact of each service, controlling the influence of other variables. These tools allowed not only to identify correlations between the variables, but also to estimate the probability of student retention based on their access and participation in the different Institutional Welfare services. The results obtained suggest that some services, such as food support, culture, sports and medical services (nursing, general medicine and physiotherapy), have a significant relationship with student retention, while others show a weaker association. These findings can contribute to the design of institutional strategies to strengthen student retention by optimizing University Welfare services.
