Resumen
In recent years, one of the interests of research in Mathematics Education has been the study of the types of generalization of patterns carried out by students, since according to Rodríguez de Chicas and Ron (2022), it is a fundamental factor to enhance the algebraic thinking. For this reason, through our research titled “Types of generalization that eighth grade students (12 to 14 years old) produce when solving tasks on sequences of patterns: A look from the Theory of Objectification”, a multimodal analysis was carried out according to the students productions and the analysis categories established from the phases of the generalization process (Vergel et al. 2022) and their characterization (Bayona, 2020). Thanks to this, the articulation of the semiotic means of objectification used by the students when analyzing and working with a sequence of patterns was identified and characterized and the presence of the analytical abduction component was identified, in order to document the type of generalization that students produce in each task.
