Resumen
In this descriptive research, we seek to perform a socio-demographic characterization of the students of the Faculty of Environment and Natural Resources of the Universidad Distrital Francisco José de Caldas in order to establish the relationships that may exist between these characteristics and the desertion that occurs in Higher Education Institutions. A systematic literature review was carried out to define the key variables and develop the design and application of an instrument built specifically under the needs and information required. In the same way, the analysis of information is presented using descriptive statistics and by means of the Power BI data visualization and processing software, the identification of relationships between different variables with the phenomenon of student desertion is concluded, such as income level, the use of different substances, psychological state, age, stratum and even factors such as work or if the student has someone who depends on him/her, which affect the time available to perform different academic and/or personal activities. Additionally, to propose a scenario of future lines that allow the application of methodologies used at the national level for the evaluation and subsequent proposal of strategies to mitigate the risk associated with student disengagement and related problems associated with individual, academic, institutional and socioeconomic factors.
