Resumen
The Jardín Botánico José Celestino Mutis has implemented an innovative program to promote the conservation of natural resources and the recovery of urban spaces in Bogotá. The program focuses on the creation of Community Agroecological Seed Banks, which seek to conserve and utilize the genetic diversity of native seeds. The main objective is to select, reproduce, store, distribute, and regenerate these seeds, promoting urban and peri-urban agriculture. To achieve this, the program has established a network of seed banks in peri-urban areas of the city. A team visited these banks, gathering information through observations, surveys, and a review of previous studies. The results of this research were used to identify the program's strengths and weaknesses and propose improvements. One of the key actions was the creation of an informational brochure on the seed banks, aimed at promoting the program and attracting new participants interested in urban and peri-urban agriculture. In short, the José Celestino Mutis Botanical Garden's Community Agroecological Seed Bank program is an innovative initiative that seeks to promote the conservation of natural resources and the recovery of urban spaces in Bogotá, fostering sustainable urban and peri-urban agriculture.
