Yuma - tambor y agua

Abstract

This report provides a detailed account of each stage involved in the internship titled YUMA - Drum and Water, a collaboration between the Peace Classrooms program and the youth leadership component of the Fundación Apoyar with Julio César Turbay Ayala School in Soacha. The project is divided into three key phases: 1. Training, 2. Musical and scenic ensemble, and 3. Performance. The objective of this project was to create and present the performative work YUMA - Drum and Water, and to establish an artistic group that, in the future, will be led by the students themselves, in line with the leadership goals outlined in the project. The internship focused on presenting this work, a street art performance that integrates scenic and musical training in a batucada (percussion) format. The piece highlights the historical significance of the Magdalena River and how it has been named by various tribes in Colombia over time. YUMA comprises four scenes unified by foundational rhythms from Salvador de Bahía, brought to Bogotá by masters of the art, including Mestre Memeu of Olodum and Adriana Portela of the female band Didá, among others.
