Pa' gozar al son de estudiantina con música de Herencia de Timbiquí y Juan Luis Guerra

Abstract

This work consists in the adaptation of four pieces that are in the formats of Dominican Meregue mixed with Soukous and Pacific Caribbean fusion, to the Colombian Estudiantina format: bandolas, tiples, guitars, percussion and voice. The pieces of the first format are from Juan Luis Guerra and 440, while the ones from the second are from Herencia de Timbiquí. The first stage of the work consisted in a review of other Estudiantinas or Andean Trios that have worked on this kind of proposals. Four musical groups were selected, they were located in a temporal line and the structure of their versions were compared in a descriptive way. This task allowed us to know some ways of work that have been used when elaborating this sort of adaptations and the sonorous result when transferring various instruments to those of plucked strings. The second stage had as purpose to develop a basic study of the genres worked in the adaptations from oral, written and sound sources in order to know the origin, its structure, performance and styles. The study of this material made possible to work on the adaptations with greater foundation and knowledge of the different musical elements that build those genres. In addition, it allowed us to bring closer the essence of them to maintain respect for the music tradition expressed by the musical groups and to generate responsibility when adapting and performing. The contents of the chapters correspond to the subjects of the three stages previously mentioned. The final stage was the individual study of the instrumentalists for their recording and following mix and edition of two of the adaptations.
