Resumen
This research offers a critique of the capitalist, growth-centered development model and highlights the importance of higher education in training professionals with critical thinking skills who can propose alternatives to conventional development. The purpose of the study was to analyze the curricular structure of the Master's program in Interdisciplinary Development Studies at the University of Cauca and the Master's program in Development Planning at the University of Santo Tomás, Bogotá. It also aimed to identify the curricular elements that promote alternatives to the development model and to reflect on the role of higher education in this transformative process. A qualitative and interpretive methodology was applied from a sociocritical perspective, allowing for an in-depth examination of the syllabi of both programs and a reflection on their educational contributions. The findings show the need to integrate topics such as subsistence economy, dialogue of knowledges, socio-environmental conflicts, social inequality, local governance, and critical thinking into the curricula, in order to strengthen educational processes that foster alternatives to the conventional development model.
