According to national regulation, represented in the Handbook for Geometrical Design of Highways formulated by the National Institute of Roadways (INVIAS), subtracted from the general guidelines issued by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO), in their different regulation, protocols, and technical specifications for the design and construction of freeways in the United States of America, the methodology for the calculation of variables that compose the wide element in horizontal curves is determined. Hence, the project’s objective focuses on the comparison of the different methodologies adopted at both national and international level for calculating the variables FA (Cantilever front of the vehicle advance) and U (Width occupied by the vehicle while describing the curved trajectory), with values obtained from specialized software in vehicular sweep paths, that allow us to determine the methodology necessary for obtaining optimal width results when designing horizontal curves.
