Resumen
The advent of Industry 4.0 has marked a technological revolution that is redefining industrial processes worldwide. This new paradigm is characterized by the integration of advanced digital technologies, such as artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things (IoT), and data analytics, to create more efficient and adaptable production environments. This global trend has generated a growing demand for automation and digitalization in various industrial sectors, with the primary goal of improving competitiveness and productivity. In Colombia, this vision of Industry 4.0 is gaining momentum thanks to government initiatives and the growing interest of the private sector in adopting innovative technologies. The integration of solutions such as process automation and advanced control in companies like Escobar y Martínez reflects this movement toward modernization and optimization of Colombian industry in the context of the fourth industrial revolution. Overall, the industry faces a growing need to adopt advanced technologies to remain competitive in an increasingly demanding market. The fourth industrial revolution has underscored the importance of automation and control in improving production processes, and Escobar y Martínez is no exception. Given this scenario, there is an urgent need to modernize machinery and manufacturing processes to stay ahead in the industry. In this context, the proposed project focuses on two key aspects: the automation of the calendering machine and the design of an automatic cutting table at the output. Using state-of-the-art control technologies, the company seeks to eliminate manual operations in the calendering process, improving precision and efficiency in the production of rubber sheets with different thicknesses. Furthermore, the implementation of the automatic cutting table will allow for precise and uniform cuts, streamlining the process and reducing human intervention. The project to automate the calendering machine and design an automatic cutting table represents an ambitious initiative to modernize and improve manufacturing processes at Escobar y Martínez. Located in an environment of technological advancements and business competitiveness, the implementation of these solutions seeks to optimize the operational efficiency and quality of rubber-based products. Within the specific framework of the project, a detailed analysis was conducted of the technical and operational requirements of the existing machine, as well as the specific production needs of Escobar y Martínez. The most appropriate control technologies will be selected and implemented to ensure optimal integration and efficient operation of the automated systems. The ultimate goal is to improve product quality, increase production capacity, and ensure a safer and more efficient work environment for all employees involved in the process.
