Resumen
This research focuses on understanding the meanings about the School that La Estrada neighborhood residents built when they were young during the years from 1998 to 2006. This, through the recovery, analysis and interpretation of the stories that emerged about the processes experienced around the School, through the systematization of the youth experiences of the research participants. This work takes a tour of the founding principles of the school, the changes that it has presented in certain historical moments, the consolidation of the youth category, the concept of experience and the subject of experience, to realize that, although there are Historical guidelines and legitimate meanings on which the meanings of the school are built, the social and cultural changes and the epochal marks will lead to the creation of new scenarios of meaning, where it will be the young people who will build the meaning of the school in the to the extent that they relate to it and understand, accept, reject or negotiate what the school context offers them. Among the meanings of the school revealed by the people belonging to the community of the La Estrada neighborhood, some conventional conceptions of the school survive, related to a moral formation, with a period of preparation for entering adult life, and with a space that enables access to knowledge. Likewise, there is an instrumental logic and a socializing function of the School that acquires a particular importance. Finally, some reflections emerge from which some challenges of the school are enunciated and some of the meanings that it is considered that the school should be acquiring with a view to assuming the new demands of society.
