    In March 2022, the Meeting on experiences and perspectives of musical notation and spelling was held virtually, an event that included the participation of 23 speakers, who presented the results of their research and inquiries around the field. A sample of these papers constitutes the set of texts collected in this publication. In this context of very diverse spellings and scores, their equally diverse uses, and a rich network of relationships that cross pedagogical, theoretical, interpretative, technological, temporal and spatial issues, this compilation was proposed to offer a space for teachers, students, musicians and researchers to present their ideas and open channels of dialogue on topics that inform our musical activities, as well as like the visions on them built.

Undoubtedly, among the most disturbing subjects of a event of this nature highlights the one that concerns the definition of the terms. popular music expressions and traditional music are categories riddled with contradictions and counter-examples, which makes it necessary to use them with much caution. Behind that problem is the difficulty delimit with certainty what traditional and popular mean as adjectives of various nouns. acknowledging that the artistic context does not offer much information to the respect, since categories such as popular and traditional do not appear in architecture, cinema or plastic arts, the challenge is to approach the debate from the musical point of view."

    In September 2014, a meeting of experiences and perspectives on the history of music was held in Bogotá, as a result of the interest of teachers and researchers in sharing and reflecting on the challenges involved in studying history in a professional musical training program. . The exercise is not restricted to the role of history as a past or social science, it is not only the observation of tradition and what other musicians did before today's musicians, it also includes an observation on different methodologies summoned to the classroom of classes, the construction and compilation of materials or anthologies, the institutional vision on the matter, the historiographical criteria that operate there and on the relationship between music and context.
