About 74.1% of its students belong to socioeconomic strata 1 and 2, which may lead to socio-economic challenges during their university stay (Universidad Distrital Francisco José de Caldas, 2020) . In this context, the university has a Student Welfare Office whose objective is to support the students' persistence throughout their professional studies. For the 2023-3 semester, 1,783 Engineering students benefited from these programs, representing 22.01% of the total beneficiaries and 17.2% of the applications for the same year. This underscores the importance of these programs and how they can be modernized to support the student body. This study evaluates the impact of the welfare programs, proposing a measurement model to identify the socioeconomic variables affecting students' stay at the university and suggesting areas for improvement in the programs. The results demonstrate that these supports are crucial for the well-being of students in strata 2 and 3, as well as their families.
