Resumen
Inadequate management of construction and demolition waste (CDW) negatively impacts the landscape, the environment, public health, and quality of life. This problem is evident in both large metropolises and small cities and requires a comprehensive and coordinated approach. Global studies underline the importance of sustainable practices in CDW management, such as separation of materials at source and the use of environmentally friendly materials. In Colombia, the situation is alarming due to the dispersion of debris and the low recycling rate, highlighting the need for comprehensive and effective solutions. To improve CDW management in Colombia, it is recommended to promote public education and awareness, establish clear policies and regulations, improve infrastructure and foster collaboration among all stakeholders. In addition, it is essential to invest in research and development of new sustainable technologies and processes. Inspired by successful regulations and practices in Spain and Mexico, Bogota can implement detailed management plans, develop a robust waste information system, create recovery plants and collection centers, and establish incentives for CDW recovery and recycling. These measures will contribute to more sustainable and efficient waste management, benefiting the environment and the community.
