Resumen
The work we present here aims to study the esthetic practices of the Colombian artist Maria Buenaventura, that have sought to generate reflections, dialogues and meetings among different cultural agents to address social and environmental issues in Bogota, in the borders where art and daily life meet. In these frontier spaces, esthetic practices awake the political force of the sensitive experience and look forward encouraging the critical transformation of these problematic conditions. Describing three esthetic practices activated by the artist, in which she establishes social and sensitive relationships with other people, other kinds of knowledge and other ways of doing in the art, and analyzing as well as interpreting them in the current artistic context, have allowed us to recognize the possibilities of sociality, political action and cultural agency they are promoting. This case study -descriptive, analytic and interpretative- has set in motion ethnographic and auto-ethnographic strategies of knowledge production and conceded a key role to participant observation. It has also supposed the emergence of the methodological proposal of participant creation, thanks to our participation in a social network of a collaborative artistic work favored by Buenaventura. Its development has allowed us to propose the innovative route of participant observation-creation to the Artistic Studies field and its challenge on research-creation processes. This work represents a contribution to two research lines of the Master’s programme. In the first place, to the ‘Artistic Studies Line’ and its articulating core Sensibility or Sensible Knowledge Studies. Secondly, to the ‘Cultural Studies of Arts Line’ and its core Artistic Agencies and Power.
