Resumen
Compensation measures are subject to a series of technical criteria for their establishment and management; some of these refer to the number of trees, species selection, available areas, minimum establishment and management conditions. However, the offsets that are developed in urban environments do not consider the exposure that these individuals will have to normal urban situations, such as pollution, soil type, stress factors and the use of public areas, among others. Therefore, these plantations should take into account the conception of the urban tree, as one that grows and develops in urban or peri-urban spaces such as parks, squares, institutions or botanical gardens and its importance lies beyond the aesthetic or landscape value, but also fulfills functions in social, environmental, historical, symbolic, cultural and recreational areas (Jimenez, 2013). Thus, urban trees established under the compensation criteria should be managed according to the needs and projection of the areas where they are established. In this sense, although the response of the trees, their development and the conditions of the project can meet the needs of compensation, they must also comply with the functions of the trees in the urban environment. To verify the potential for continuity between the environmental compensation and the urban use of the trees, the degree of adaptation and quality of the individuals installed is evaluated, with the objective of guaranteeing not only compliance with the measure, but also a relatively greater impact, such as that represented by the urban trees.
