Resumen
This research analytically addresses some of the Theological approaches of Saint Augustin in relation to his musical practices. To this end, two theories are developed in which Agustin connects Music and Theology: Liberal Arts and Sign Theory. Therefore, the first chapter examines the ways liberal arts intervene on, from Agustine’s perspective; we would call the knowledge of God, where music is seen as an example of this approach, whereas in the second chapter Music practice is seen as a sign to the Christian doctrine. Having said that, the research on those topics gathers philosophical concepts of old ages, it discerns some of the theoretical approaches to music prior to Augustin, it provides historical descriptions of the music practices of Christianity on the centuries IV-V and shows some of the music concepts of the Church forefathers. This paper, therefore, gathers various essential components in order to build the Augustinian thinking.
