Resumen
This paper responds to an investigation of living sources that have been important gestors of the social and cultural construction of the guabinero chant. The Guabina is a genre that belongs to the guabina-torbellino system, in which a message in couplet form is shown, the couplet form has been transferred over generations among the population of the Velez province in Santander. It is a vocal form of expression that can be found in several forms such as: female, male or mixed voice duet, with accompaignment or a capella. It may also be interleaved between singing voice and torbellino. This work documents the testimonies of six well-known Guabineros from Bolívar and Vélez: Esley Zoliana Narváez Vásquez, Liliam Vásquez Tellez, Nelles Smilsen Mogollón Mosquera, Héctor Darío Herreño Ruiz, Miguel Roberto Hernández Cepeda and Álvaro Quiroga Herreño. With their help, the performance of the Guabina will be described and told through the experiences of this tradition, uniting these stories to describe the genre known today as Guabina.
