“Kuisi” Instrumentación de las gaitas del caribe colombiano y la gauta

Abstract

My research focuses on Colombian gaitas, a traditional musical instrument of great cultural importance in Colombia. Throughout my work, I have explored their history, evolution, the development of different hybrids, and various regional styles. Additionally, I have analyzed the interpretation techniques and sound characteristics that define Colombian gaitas. Regarding gaita composition, I have investigated fundamental aspects such as musical structure, characteristic rhythmic and melodic patterns, as well as the scales and modes most commonly used in composing for this instrument. I have also examined the specific musical notation for gaitas, considering both oral tradition and written transcription as complementary tools for documenting and effectively transmitting gaita and tambora music. This research aims not only to understand the musical richness of Colombian gaitas but also to contribute to the development and preservation of this cultural tradition through a musical writing that reflects its essence and diversity, providing a composition guide for composers, arrangers, and gaita players.
