Resumen
The communicative competence is considered as an essential part of the use of English as a foreign language. It is a necessity that English learners become aware in the importance of the correct use of the majority of the words in the English language because vocabulary is considered as a big part of English language proficiency to be able to communicate their ideas in the English Language. However, the participants of this study were students who have been exposed to ELT over a number of years, but which had not developed the expected level of proficiency. This is a typical problem in most schools in Bogotá and in the rest of the country. This paper reports on the results of an internship which began in an effort to help our students increase their vocabulary in English by means of images, songs, videos and story-telling. In this paper, personal suggestions have been reached for better vocabulary acquisition. Contributions have been made by the authors regarding the importance of understanding and how to better use vocabulary.
