Resumen
The Almeidas Province, also known as the Northern Savannah Province, is one of the fifteen provinces of Cundinamarca’s department (Colombia). Province is located in the northeast of the department of Cundinamarca, it is conformed by municipalities of Chocontá, Macheta, Mantá, Sesquilé, Suesca, Tibiritá and Villapinzón. Currently, there are no functional sanitary landfills in their jurisdiction, since the two they have been closed for environmental damage and a faulty administration. The objective is to carry out optimization of a conventional sanitary landfill with the Fukuoka method; it is a method used for the first time in Japan in the 70s, this method consists for generating a decomposition of waste in a semi-aerobics way by means of aeration columns, also has a leachate recirculation. These new implementations in a conventional sanitary landfill makes leachate quality improve and methane production decreases. We proceed to look for the possible location through the software ArcGIS, which is a Geographic Information System (GIS), for this procedure were considered exclusion given by Colombian regulations and international manuals. With the selected location we proceed to select the conventional method (area, trench or combined), and finally we proceed to design the conventional sanitary landfill with the optimization of the Fukuoka method.
