Resumen
Mobility in a city like Bogotá is a fundamental aspect of everyday life. Therefore, it is imperative for the city to have workshops ready to address any adversity that any vehicle associated with the public transportation system may encounter. However, car workshops in Bogotá, in general, tend to adopt practices that are not only unconventional but also pose risks to public health and the environment. Consequently, this leads to an increase in negative environmental and health impacts overall.
Bogotá, being the main city and capital district of the country, boasts its own integrated public transportation system (SITP) and mass transportation system (TransMilenio). According to the Mobility report issued by the Bogotá City Hall in 2019, 18% of the total daily trips in the city are made using the TransMilenio mass transportation system, while 17.8% are attributed to users of the integrated district public transportation system SITP (Bogotá City Hall, 2019).
Currently, in the city of Bogotá, there are more than ten specialized workshops operating within the integrated public transportation system. These workshops are designed to address a wide range of requirements and eventualities that may arise in any vehicle associated with the city's Integrated Public Transportation System.
This monograph is conceived with the aim of developing environmental management tools that promote and incentivize the adoption of good environmental practices in the workshops of the integrated public transportation system SITP in Bogotá. The methodologies presented in this work are focused on the daily activities of these workshops, incorporating practices to reduce pollution, consumption, or waste based on the specific needs of each activity. The monograph serves as a proposal for certain public service workshops to assess the possibility of improving their practices, thereby reducing their environmental impacts. Additionally, it encourages these workshops to work towards enhancing their production processes, ultimately leading to positive consequences for the daily lives of their employees and the users of this vital transportation system.
In the course of this academic work, our scope extends beyond the mere exploration of legislation related to the formulation and evaluation of environmental management instruments. Instead, we delve into how legislation can serve as a fundamental tool for actively creating these instruments. This approach not only ensures compliance with legal requirements but also demonstrates how legislation can be a valuable guide in crafting tools that meet the intricate demands of a city as extensive as Bogotá. This comprehensive approach guarantees more effective and aligned environmental planning with the specific needs of the massive community that characterizes the city.
