Resumen
Between 2001 and 2020, 2.3 million hectares of forest were lost in the Colombian Amazon, representing 5.2% of the region's forested area. This loss is primarily attributed to the expansion of agricultural frontiers, forest fires, other human activities, and indirectly to a lack of awareness of the Amazon region's potential. Urgent measures are needed to address this situation and adapt to climate change, particularly through the restoration of the Amazon.
The proposed project aims to identify and validate criteria for selecting 15 priority species for the restoration of the Colombian Amazon. These species are chosen from a list of 74 prioritized by CORPOAMAZONIA. The project focuses on environmental, social, and economic criteria to ensure the long-term effectiveness and success of the restoration efforts. Collaboration among scientists, local communities, businesses, and environmental authorities is crucial to achieving these goal.
