Abstract

This document describe the Electric Substations because they are one of the most important elements in an electrical System, because are present in the generating processes, transmission, distribution and commercialization of electrical energy. The criteria is defined for their classification and the main components of these installations will be described, making especial emphasis on the outside substations or conventionally isolated on air because they represent a major part of the ones built in the central region encompassing the municipalities of Boyacá, Cundinamarca, Meta, Tolima and the city of Bogotá. Afterwards there will be an analysis of the the advantages that implementing the standard IEC 61850 in the automatization process of substations will represent for the electrical system at an operative, economical and environmental level. The analysis includes the architecture of the digital electric substations and the parameters required to implement them in a system of smart grid.
