Resumen
Due to the industrial development of the last decades, environment pollution has worsened to alarming levels, which has promoted the adoption of alternative technologies that are able to mitigate or eliminate the environmental impact that human activities have on their surroundings. With this in mind, the present work consists in the elaboration of a state of the art regarding the environmental applications of biosurfactants en the decade 2010 – 2020, by collecting, systematizing and analysing the information collected. In this way, the work shows environmental applications of biosurfactants, as well as their mechanisms of action. Accordingly, the paper addresses applications such as hydrocarbon bioremediation, heavy metal bioremediation, emulsion formation, oil recovery, biocidal capacity, pesticide bioremediation, detergent formulation, oil tank cleaning, microbial fuel cell optimization, biodesulfurization process optimization, bioremediation of explosives, biosynthesis of metal nanoparticles, biofilm dispersion, biocontrol agent, water retention enhancement agent in arid soils, bioremediation of antibiotics in aquatic environments, solubilization of obstructions, formulation of fuels, optimization of the composting process, separation of minerals, production of polyhydroxyalkanoates and transport of petroleum by pipelines.
