Resumen
The present investigation was carried out in Pipiral, Villavicencio under the jurisdiction of the Corporation for the Sustainable Development of the Special Management Area la Macarena CORMACARENA with the purpose of describing the population structure and marketing chain of the crown palm Geonoma orbignyana Mart. For more than thirty years, the leaves of this specie have been extracted from the forest.Three permanent plots were established for a total of 0.3 hectares sampled, where different morphological features were measured to all the present palms. In addition, ten semi-structured interviews were conducted with the different actors in the marketing chain. We found 1637 individuals that are distributed in the seedling, juvenile and adult age categories, generated from the number of pinna and stipe length variables, where seven subcategories were obtained. A deficit of individuals has been observed in the sub-category Seedlings II, which could indicate that the population is being overexploited. The most important parameters to take into account to regulate the harvest are: continue monitoring its structure and population dynamics, characterize other populations, to create a model of sustainable use, perform conservation tasks between CORMACARENA and palm families, which promotes its organization and training, and create consensus that establish a fair market for all actors. On the other hand, four actors are identified in the marketing process: palmers, intermediaries, florists and final consumers, evidencing a potential of the species as a non-forest forest product (NTFP) that represents an economic alternative for the peasant communities of the region, Provided that the terms of reference for sustainable use are established.
