The research about the teaching of Social sciences in primary basic education, whose main interest was the characterization of the pedagogical practices developed by sixteen teachers of primary school of a District educational institution of Bogotá in the teaching of social sciences from the first to the fifth grade. As research results, it was possible to construct a historical overview of the profession of the primary school teacher in Colombia. To recognize not only the specificities of the pedagogical practices of this group of teachers within a certain school context; but also, from the pedagogical reflection to extract and demonstrate a set of generalities that allowed us to propose urgent points for approaching the discussion about the teaching of social sciences in primary basic education by generalist teachers with different training degrees and finally, the relationship of teacher`s pedagogical practices with public policy for the teaching of social sciences in Colombia from three technical curricular standards (guidelines, standards, and DBA). Three central categories constituted the central axis of the research: primary school teacher, pedagogical practices and social sciences teaching. As a methodological plan in the research, it made use of the qualitative research approach and its framework, from the genealogical – archaeological methodological approach of Michael Foucault; thus achieving bring out in a descriptive way the discourses, the non – discursive and the singular statements of the teachers about their pedagogical practices when they teach Social sciences.
