Abstract

This thesis aims to analyze Lean Manufacturing tools and their potential for waste elimination in the context of SMEs. Through a comprehensive review of the state of the art, it demonstrates how Lean theory has been integrated into organizational strategies as an effective problem-solving methodology, particularly in the production link of the supply chain. SMEs play a crucial role in the national economy, contributing significantly to production and job creation. However, they often face challenges related to limited resources and inefficient processes that hinder their growth and competitiveness. In this context, the application of Lean Manufacturing principles and tools could provide a viable solution to optimize their operations, eliminate waste, and consequently improve their productivity. This study is based on the implementation of Lean Manufacturing methodology in the production area of the company Intercaster to increase productivity. To achieve this, the process begins with a visit to the company’s facilities to contextualize the problem directly. At the same time, theoretical research on Lean Manufacturing is conducted, as it is a crucial focus for the project’s execution in the organization. Following this, the most appropriate processes for physical reorganization in the company are determined, based on the principles and fundamentals of this technique. Finally, the company’s production area is reorganized, enhanced, and restructured to optimize processes, prevent bottlenecks, and provide better customer service. Subsequently, the most relevant Lean Manufacturing tools will be analyzed, along with their potential impact on process improvement and waste reduction in the company. Finally, recommendations and strategies will be presented to facilitate the adoption of Lean Manufacturing in the SME sector.
