The development and modernization of museums has been an important factor in scientific, research, educational and social contributions in general, because they influence the conservation and dissemination of heritage, through documentation and information systems, internally managing the treatment. of data and involving users with internal and external processes, thus making known aspects such as the historical continuity of the nation, inspiring identity and cultural appropriation. This process is supported by the use of specialized software in the description, cataloguing, inventory and access of the pieces and collections that are preserved there, in this case, analyzed from the work of the museums in Bogotá. In this way, the protection and visibility of museum institutions has advanced not only at an international level but also at a national level, since policies and laws were established in Colombia specifically aimed at the importance of having institutions of this type, such as, for example, the General Culture Law that involves all museums in the country, not only in heritage areas, development of cultural identity and contribution to national historical memory, but also security, treatment and access to collection data that safeguard within the institution, which is also linked to document management and the use of databases to efficiently carry out the description and cataloguing, this guaranteeing access to the entire public.
