Resumen
The research macroproject: Teaching biology and citizenship formation; a Latin American perspective, carried out by 7 universities from 6 countries in the region, subscribes to the present research in the line: Issues of sexual and gender diversity, the body, health and biology teaching. A documentary review is carried out on papers presented at three biology teaching conferences, held in Argentina, Brazil and Colombia between 2019 and 2021, to identify the relationship established between sexual education and citizenship formation. Among the main findings is that the good development of the functions of sexuality (Communicative, Affective, Reproductive and Erotic), reverses the effects produced by the implementation of sexual education guided by normalizing currents (Moralist, Biologist and Pathogenic), which provides a favorable scenario for the strengthening of emancipatory pedagogies (queer and decolonial). On the other hand, the formation of citizenships with a cultural emphasis (multicultural and intercultural) allows us to counter the ideas mobilized by Marshall's citizenships (liberal, communitarian and republican), as they question the weakening of the State, the promotion of hegemonic traditional values and the epistemicide originated by the westernization of the region. Finally, the practices of normalization of sexuality generate subsequent exercises of specific resistance in economically, socially and politically diverse populations. In this sense, situating ourselves within intersectional analytical frameworks allows us to highlight the complex relationships that constitute social injustice.
