Abstract

Currently in the urban areas of Bogotá the generation of solid waste has increased considerably due to various factors, in view of this there are many consequences such as: saturation of sanitary landfills, improper waste disposal, damage to environmental ecosystems, among others. Thus, methods, techniques or systems that contribute to the use and / or reduction of solid waste should be adopted. Solid waste contains various groups that can be used in different ways, however and considering that most of the waste generated by Bogota households is organic, composting is chosen. Composting is an easy technique to implement as it does not require many materials, the processes are autonomous, and it also generates a beneficial product such as organic fertilizer called compost. Through the implementation of composting in homes, a high percentage of waste can be reduced from the source, which mitigates a bit the problems mentioned above, in addition to this, the communities that implement it have compost as an added product for their gardens and crops. This paper presents the design of a collection unit for the use of organic solid waste generated in a sector of the San Basilio neighborhood Located in the city of Bogotá through composting in order to reduce the organic solid waste produced and use the resulting compost in communal crops and in the gardens of the houses in the area, it is important to emphasize that although the study was carried out in this place, it can be modified and adapted to communities with similar characteristics.
