Resumen
This thesis examines the impact of marching bands on students' holistic development, with a particular focus on arts education. Through an analysis of formative experiences in marching bands, it explores how the combination of music, movement, and discipline contributes to students' personal, academic, and social growth. This educational approach highlights the importance of arts education as a tool for the development of cognitive, emotional, and social skills. The study focuses on several key aspects that demonstrate the value of arts education in marching bands: Learning through embodiment: The integration of embodiment into musical learning has a positive impact on students' physical and emotional development. By connecting with dance and harnessing multiple intelligences, students improve their body awareness, posture, coordination, and physical endurance. Learning through musical practice: Learning to play instruments in marching bands is based on continuous practice. This focus on action favors the development of technical skills and stimulates different areas of the brain, such as memory, rhythm, and teamwork. In this way, learning moves from practice to theory. Creation and adoption of healthy habits: Participation in marching bands helps students develop habits such as discipline, perseverance, and organization. These values not only benefit the musical environment but also the students' personal and academic lives, promoting greater responsibility and commitment. Bands as spaces for inclusion: Marching bands are places of social integration where students learn to work as a team, respect and value differences, and develop social skills. These spaces contribute to harmonious coexistence and promote students' holistic growth. This work demonstrates how marching bands, as part of arts education, not only fulfill a musical function but are also pedagogical spaces that foster students' holistic development, strengthening their academic, personal, and social development.
