Resumen
The application of manufacturing strategies allows aligning the productive processes in the companies with their corporate strategies, contributing in this way to the improvement of their competitiveness. However, in the small and medium size Colombian companies this kind of actions is not commonly deployed; the academic production on this kind of strategies has not been widely developed at national level either. Based on the above situation and considering the weaknesses involved in the approach to this kind of strategies in Colombia, this work designed a methodology for the formulation of a manufacturing strategy, applied as a pilot test on a company of the automotive local remanufacturing sector that needed said strategy and would benefit from its implementation. The formulation of a strategy starts with the definition of the competitive priorities and the decision areas in the company. The academic literature evidences the need of strengthening the conceptual models that define these priorities and decisions with structured and mathematically founded models, and for such purpose advantage is taken from the potentialities in the functional structure of the Quality Function Deployment (QFD) and the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) for decision making. The developed methodology also defines the patterns for the diagnostic of the manufacturing system, the procedures required for reviewing the alignment of the manufacturing strategy decisions with the company’s corporate objectives, and for the definition of an action plan for the manufacturing process.
