Narrativas, máscaras y otras deformaciones. Una ruta alterna hacia la autognosis

Abstract

An extensive facial injury caused by a violent incident led me to question my life choices, my being, and my identity. Here I intend to revisit that moment when disfiguration gave me clues of my inner world, the one which becomes hard to face and that hides in the unconscious mind, embracing the face as a place where life events leave marks which can be read and interpreted. This project resorts to playing with masks, the use of improvisation in nondirective interviews, the development of a face topography, and creative writing to search for ways of deconstructing the human face as a distancing mechanism. It also pretends to put one’s gaze in crisis by means of estrangement and to question the narrative creation of self, intending so to venture a path to self-knowledge.
