Resumen
Master Efraín Medina Mora (1924-2008) was a composer from Boyacá who significantly enriched the repertoire of Colombian popular-traditional music (folk music), in addition to having influenced many lives of empirical and professional musicians in his work as a teacher and composer. Among his most acclaimed works, El Guayatuno in whirlwind rhythm stands out, this being the one that gives him recognition in the national sphere thanks to its dissemination. This work presents a biographical approach that outlines the most important aspects of Master Medina´s life, based on interviews with family members and students, and documents collected within the investigative field. Likewise, a version for symphonic band titled: “Suite - El Valle de Medina” is created, which collects three musical pieces that are compiled in the book “20 perlas musicales colombianas - Efraín Medina Mora”, a personal publication made in manuscript by the Master himself. The purpose of this work is to honor Maestro Medina’s life and work as both an educator and composer, while also promoting his music within the symphonic sphere of the country.
