This research aims to investigate the importance of science teaching taking into account the cultural context and traditional knowledge of medicinal plants of the indigenous Wayuu with the eighth grade students of the Ethnoeducational Center # 12 Muurai Main Headquarters, located in the ethnic rural area of Riohacha, La Guajira. A community of practice was created, with knowledgeable people, the traditional authority of the community, educational directors, teachers and students who showed interest and whose contributions allowed the understanding, strengthening and recognition of traditional medicine that represents cultural and ancestral wealth in the Wayuu. community
This qualitative research work, part of an interpretive paradigm whose ethnographic approach allows it to address the problem situation within the context. Thus, the information from the Community of Practice, through semi-structured interviews, surveys and information recorded in the field diary; It is analyzed within the categories established for research which are: science teaching, interculturality and traditional knowledge
This research process carried out a tour of the community in search of the medicinal plants present. Most of the participants in the community of practice expressed the importance that science classrooms include these topics related to cultural traditions to strengthen and promote their use.
Traditional knowledge allows us to understand the conservation of knowledge, the transmission of knowledge and respect for the elderly as agents of transmission of wisdom from the leadership of their community.
