Resumen
Geomatics, as an integrative discipline, refers to the use, quantification, study, analysis, and application of geospatial data. When integrated with various geographic information systems, this data enables the optimization of processes in the various branches of engineering and geodesy. The information is processed by satellites in Earth orbit, marine sensors, or airborne sensors. The global demand that arose from the industrial revolution, seeking the introduction of emerging technologies, has required the strengthening of sciences such as geomatics for the acquisition of accurate and reliable information in real time. When mentioning the term "Geomatics" and its implications and needs in Civil Engineering, specifically in Colombia, it is essential to understand its origin, advancements, and potential applications in the engineering field.
