Resumen
Infrastructure projects in Colombia use traditional methods for the planning, execution and supervision of processes in terms of project management, as well as projects with design, schedule and cost problems, which generate delays and cost overruns in the construction phase. It is therefore necessary to implement more efficient methodologies in the development of infrastructure projects, both in design and construction. BIM (Building Information Modelling) technology has become a basic standard and methodology for construction project management in the world, which is based on collaborative work, digitization, agility, interoperability, process automation and control of the entire project life cycle. Consequently, this research described the new trends in construction project management based on the evolution of the BIM methodology and its implementation in the world and Colombia, similarly, demonstrated the benefits and challenges of applying BIM in the different phases of a project's life cycle and its management from industrial engineering. Finally, the BIM methodology was applied in the design phase of the project for the new laboratory building of the Faculty of Engineering of the Universidad Distrital Francisco José de Caldas (UDFJC), using Revit Architecture software, Dynamo Navisworks Manage and its digitalization in the cloud.
