Instalación y monitoreo de nidos artificiales para la conservación del loro orejiamarillo (ognorhynchus icterotis) en la Vereda el Vergel Alto del Municipio de Cubarral, Meta

Abstract

The implementation of artificial nests as a conservation strategy in the piedmont ridge, in the deparment of Meta, contributes in the solution of the low supply of nesting due to the scarcity of natural nests, bacause fot the 500 hectares that are reported as an area of influence of the parrot in the village El vergel Alto. Only registed 3 palms apt to be used as nesting site. The artificial nests that have been installed since the year 2011 have presented a high level of acceptance since of 25 installed nests were accepted 16, percentage that continues increasing reporting to date two births and nine eggs. The registration of the births of chicks in the artificial nests nd their arrival to flight stage contributes to solve the low density of the specie. Fort he present Project, an octagonal nest model was designed that resembles even more to the inside of the natural nests, besides having lateral doors that facilitate the monitoring, described the techniques of installation of nests and cameras as well as the equipment used. The monitoring continued both outside and inside the nests by means of cameras allowed a complete description of the behavior of the parrots and their daily activities of feeding, mating, social life, among others, as well as the detailed description of the chic and their parents inside the nest to the flight stage.
