Resumen
Was studied the relationship between the content of Soil Organic Matter (SOM) and the geochemical and fertility variables in two soil types corresponding to a dry area (Oxisoil) and an area of wetland (Gleysoil) on the plateau basin of the river uberabinha (Minas Gerais, Brazil), with the aim of assessing carbon sequestration in wetlands and environmental importance. It was found that there is a linear correlation between variables MOS and fertility; no correlation between MOS and geochemical variables found; finally he found that exists in each of the soil types analyzed a significant difference in iron concentration, which is an important plant macronutrient. Following the findings of this paper concludes justify framing wetlands in special areas for conservation for its high presence of MOS and the benefits that this brings about forming structure, indirect mitigating climate change and nutrient source for plants. Finally degradation of wetlands, among other consequences, accelerates mineralization of SOM releasing carbon dioxide and methane, greenhouse gases that generate impacts on climate change.
