Resumen
Geographic Information Systems nowadays have a miscellaneous action field, since environmental studies to epidemiologic control, the versatility of this technological tools has been the principal reason of their application to urban planning, and a lot of the biggest cities in the world uses GIS as a part of their strategies to manage their urban web; In Colombia many cities as Bogotá, Cali and Medellin uses this tools for their cadastral inventory and define town and social politics, even became it into a tool for prediction of urban and infrastructure expansion. However this tools hasn’t been implemented by municipalities in an active way particularly those where the population exceed 100.000, because different population dynamics caused by internal growing and external pressure induced by nearest cities. In this context the best solution was develop a GIS applied to urban planning process in Madrid, Cundinamarca. Using information and data provided by Land Use Plan and public utilities, specifically for the urban area because the municipality has other urban centers that aren’t significant for this project. It was developed using incompatible format migration and free software integration methodology, as well as automation models inclusion and urban growing prediction. Also it presents a significant progress for municipality development so in a regional as national frame, as well as develop this kind of tools in other cities.
