Resumen
It is important to consider that tourism is a strategy to boost the economy of the populations that inhabit protected areas. However, it is essential to guide these activities so that they do not generate impacts on ecosystems. This document contains the Evaluation of the potential of the Cerro El Tabor Protective Forest Reserve - RFPP Cerro El Tabor as a tourist attraction for bird watching.
The evaluation methodology considered three main objectives. Initially, a diagnosis of the territory was carried out, in which the natural attractions, the providers of complementary tourism services were identified and the potential of birdlife in the protected area was validated. The second objective was to determine the characteristics of the birdwatching visitor profile and the calculation of the carrying capacity of the identified attractions. Lastly, a strategy for birdwatching development was formulated by identifying weaknesses, opportunities, strengths and threats.
As a result, the protected area has the potential to carry out birdwatching activities. However, it is important to strengthen the administrative and technical capacities of the community in the area of influence in order to guarantee service delivery. Three viewpoints and two trails were identified whose load capacities were calculated for the identified trails, which corresponded to: 46 people / day for the Biodiversity and ancestors trail and 29 people / day for the Coffee Growers trail. Also, opportunities were identified to position the Cerro El Tabor Production Protective Forest Reserve as a destination for bird watching in the department of Cundinamarca.
