Resumen
Starting with a reduction of a version for string quartet and flute of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Concert for Piano and Orchestra No. 20 in D minor, an alternative is proposed to counter the decline in solo piano and orchestra repertoires, especially in Latin America, due to logistical difficulties of assembly. Besides an alternative for the soloist, this process provides an opportunity to consolidate chamber music ensembles around this kind of repertoires. The reduction requires some decisions about the distribution of melodies and countermelodies in the new format, as well as the preservation of melodic elements and harmonic movements in order to conserve the most important characteristics of Mozart's compositions. This work shows the usefulness of encouraging the player to make a process of reduction of music originally written for solo and orchestra formats. Finally, it is expected that performers use the reduction process like an additional path to understand their repertoire, thorough comprehension of resources used by the composer, all of this in order to improve their performance.
