Resumen
The phenomenon of Venezuelan citizens migrating to Colombia has strongly impacted multiple areas of our society, including education. English pre-service teachers are a population that faces this new reality. Our objective was to analyze the perceptions of EFL pre-service teachers on immigrant students from their formation on cultural fields such as ICC and transculturality. For this purpose, our research question is to ask What perceptions do pre-service teachers’ have on the phenomenon of Venezuelan immigrant students from an intercultural perspective? by interviewing the pre-service teachers about their experiences using semi-structured interviews, a survey, and researchers’ duo-ethnography exercise. We found that EFL pre-service teachers do not feel well-prepared to face this reality they have inside their classrooms, they also made some reflections upon some deficiencies they still find inside the education system which make their practicum experience significatively more challenging.
