Abstract

The image presents a news about: "Due to the tremors that occurred in the years of 1826 and 1827, the walls collapsed , and most of the arches of the cloisters of this maximum convent of Santa Fe de Bogotá, in terms that because of the ruin that threatened the whole building it was necessary for the religious to leave the convent and go out to live in the homes of the benefactors; and not having alms for the renovation of the building, the prelates met with the community in general consultation, and in response to the sad and regrettable circumstances in which they found themselves, they decided to sell the gold and silver jewelry of the church to renovate the convent, and that only the purely necessary for the celebration of the divine offices be excepted. The jewels and jewels of gold and silver that were in the church of the Gathering of San Diego of this city, were also consumed for the same reasons, and for the penury and scarcity of the times, according to the consultation that was made in the year of 1827 according to and as consul of the respective book, and in those of receipt and expense that exist in the archives of the aforementioned convents; being of note that some jewels were sold for their valuations to several individuals , and others benefited in the mint of this capital".
