Resumen
The Carbon Footprint is the representation of the total volume of greenhouse gases (GHG) produced by human economic and daily activities, expressed in tons of CO2eq (carbon dioxide equivalent), this indicator measures both direct and indirect emissions, and entities can reduce or offset them with the implementation of various projects (E. Schneider & Samaniego, 2009).
Compensation or removal activities are developed when it is not possible to stop emitting GHGs, understanding these activities as "Actions aimed at compensating and reimbursing communities, regions, localities and the natural environment for the negative impacts or effects generated by a project, work or activity, which cannot be avoided, corrected or mitigated" (Decree 1076, 2015, Art. 2.2.2.2.3.1.1.).
Taking into account the above, Banco de la República, as a sustainable organization, has been developing work to consolidate itself as a low-carbon organization, aimed at being certified as Carbon Neutral. In accordance with the strategy established by the Bank to reduce the generation of GHG, and to compensate the gases emitted; the purpose of this report is to document the work developed during the internship, which was aimed at identifying which species are more recommendable for the development of compensation projects that promote the efficient cost for their implementation.
