Resumen
This paper develops an analysis of the state of the art on the use of geographic information systems in environmental education, in order to establish the potential of geographic information systems (GIS) as a tool in environmental education. Under these guidelines, a qualitative-analytical methodological approach will be developed through which the strengths and weaknesses involved in the use of the same will be evidenced, since geographic information systems not only address a technical component, but are composed of various elements that allow a new interrelation with the reality that leads individuals to question their role as active actors in the sustainable management of natural resources at different scales and their appropriation with the territory that surrounds them.
